John says...

Welcome to my website! As the Member of Parliament for Billericay and District, including Wickford, Pitsea, Laindon and surrounding villages, I am delighted that you have chosen to visit. It is important for local people to be able to see what their MP is doing and saying – both in Parliament and in South Essex. My speeches and press releases are posted on this site, and constituents are welcome to give feedback.

Key Issues

Law and Order

I believe that a much tougher policy is needed if we are to combat the rise in violent crime and antisocial behaviour. That is why I have made law and order one of my top priorities.

Civil Liberties

Our traditional freedoms are under threat on many fronts, but I have not given up my belief that most British people instinctively know the value of liberty and freedom of speech.

The Traveller Issue

In 2003, I attempted to change the law through a Private Member’s Bill in the House of Commons. My Greenbelt Protection Bill introduced the twin-track approach I still believe is necessary.
